On Friday morning, tens of thousands of Palestinians performed Eid al-Fitr prayers across the Gaza Strip, near the ruins of destroyed mosques and in open spaces near the tents of displaced people. The festive takbirs rang out in a scene where spirituality mingled with the widespread destruction left behind by the aggression.
Worshippers gathered in makeshift prayer areas set up atop the rubble or next to mosques—most of which Israel had completely destroyed—raising their voices in takbir in an effort to observe the Eid rituals despite the harsh conditions, while signs of grief were evident on the faces of many who had lost relatives or their homes during the war.
This year’s Eid al-Fitr comes amid complex humanitarian conditions, with the blockade continuing and the displacement crisis worsening, as hundreds of thousands of Palestinians remain living in shelters or temporary tents, amid severe shortages of food, water, and basic services
